Upcoming Banipal Book Club meetings
Due to the events Banipal is participating in to celebrate the 2014 Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation, there will be no book club meeting in February. For more information about the events, see Banipal's forthcoming events.
The next two novels up for discussion tackle the sadly all too topical subject of the profound effects of war on Iraq.
The next book club meeting will take place on Thursday 19th March, where we will discuss The Corpse Washer, by Sinan Antoon, winner of the 2014 Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize (translated himself, published by Yale University Press). You can find out much more about the book here.
The following book club meeting will take place on Thursday 30th April, during which we will discuss The American Granddaughter, by Inaam Kachachi (translated by Nariman Youssef, published by Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing). This novel follows Zeina and her struggle with her identity, family and return to Iraq from the US as an interpreter for the US army, at the beginning of the American occupation of Iraq.

Both novels can be purchased online and are also available at the BALMAL library. The Corpse Washer will also be available to purchase at Banipal's event 'In conversation: SINAN ANTOON' on Wednesday 24th February. To check if a book is available from the library, please call the Arab British Centre, who manage the library, on 020 7832 1310.
Book club meetings take place from 6.30 - approximately 8pm, in the
Meeting Rooms & Library, on the first floor of the Arab British
Centre, 1 Gough Square, London EC4A 3DE. All are welcome for an informal discussion about the novels, and do let us know if you would like to attend, at info@banipal.co.uk.
