Serpentine and Qatar Museums Authority collaborate on Arab Arts Festival in London: 4-6 July 2013

The 3-day festival EHTIFAL is a free programme of Arab literature, debate, music and art, in London from 4 to 6 July 2013.

EHTIFAL is part of Shubbak, London’s Arab contemporary arts festival. The first two days of the Festival will be hosted jointly by the Serpentine with Mathaf, the Middle East’s first museum of modern and contemporary art, based in Doha, in a special Pop-Up programme. EHTIFAL will culminate in a free open-air family day, as a special celebration of Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture, on Saturday 6 July in and around the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion. It is presented by The Serpentine Gallery in collaboration with Qatar Museums Authority.

Event: Mapping Arab Literature in London
Explore Arab London's literary and artistic heritage with artist Ibrahim El-Salahi, author and artist Etel Adnan, publisher Margaret Obank, authors Ma'n Abu Taleb, Sophia Al-Maria and Hisham Matar and Serpentine Gallery Co-Director Hans Ulrich Obrist. Hosted by Pop-Up Mathaf guest curator Deena Chalabi, the event promises a unique and lively debate on the history and future of Arab literature in London.

The event is part of Continuous City: Mapping Arab London, a series of talks, discussions and publications mapping relationships between London and Arab cities that is developed by Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, the Serpentine Gallery's Edgware Road Project during Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture.

Event: Tashweesh and Waeil Abo Bakr – performances from Palestinian audio/visual collective Tashweesh and virtuoso Egyptian violinist Waeil Abo Bakr, famed for his work with Led Zeppelin and Peter Gabriel.

Venue: Serpentine Pavilion
Event: EHTIFAL Family Day – Celebrating Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture. Artists and designers from London and Qatar will come together to present a special day of cross-cultural adventure in English and Arabic for children and families.
