On the 20th of March, the New York Times published Iraqi author Ahmad Saadawi's article A Decade of Despair. The article was translated by Ghenwa Hayek and reflects on the past decade in Iraq, exactly 10 years after the United States led invasion.
Saadawi was born in Baghdad in 1973 and is a novelist, poet, painter and
journalist. He has published four books of poetry and two novels, with
some short stories published in magazines. He has worked as a journalist
and as a BBC correspondent in Baghdad (2005–2007) and now writes
documentaries and screenplays for TV. He is also a Beirut39 selected young author.
