Pius Alibek was born in Ankawa in northern Iraq. He studied English Language and Literature in Baghdad and moved to Barcelona in 1981 to continue his studies in philology. He continues to live in Barcelona, where he teaches, carries out historical and linguistic research, and runs his own restaurant “Mesopotamia”.
His novel Arrels nòmade, written in Catalan, has been published in German, Dutch, Romanian and Spanish editions., and is excerpted in Banipal 48 – Narrating Marrakech. He is the Catalan translator of The Yacoubian Building by Egyptian author Alaa Al-Aswany. In 2004 he received the Barcelona Medal of Honour for his work for peace.
