Ahmed al-Shahawy
was born in Dumiyat, Egypt, in 1960. He is a poet and journalist living in Cairo. He has published seven poetry collections. In 1995 he won the UNESCO prize for poetry and in 1998 Egypt’s Cafavy poetry prize.
