Tahar Bekri is a Tunisian poet and writer born in 1951 in Gabès, Tunisia. He writes in both French and Arabic and his poetry has been translated into several languages. He has published over 20 books of poetry, essays and art criticism.

He has lived in France since 1976 and lectures at the University Paris X. Recent works include Si la musique doit mourir (Al-Manar, Paris, 2006), Les Dits du fleuve (Al-Manar, Paris, 2009) and Salam Gaza (Elyzad, Tunis, 2010).
