Mahmoud al-Rahbi was born in Sarur, Oman, in 1969. He has a BA in Arabic Literature from Mohammed V University, Morocco.

He has six story collections and two novels. His collection Limadha la Tamzah Ma‘i (Why Don’t You Joke with Me?) won Best Short Story Prize at the 2008 Muscat Book Fair, and in 2009 his collection Irjuha Fawqa Zamanain (A Seesaw Overlooking Two Times) won the Dubai Cultural Prize.
