Adil Babikir is a Sudanese translator into and out of English & Arabic, living now in Abu Dhabi.
He has translated Mansi: a Rare Man in his Own Way by Tayeb Salih, which was excerpted initially in Banipal 56 (2016) and then published as a book by Banipal Books in 2020. It jointly won third prize for translation Arabic to English in the 2020 Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding, known generally as the Hamad Translation Award.
He has translated two novels by Abdelaziz Baraka Sakin, including The Jungo: Stakes of the Earth (Africa World Press, 2015). Other translations include two anthologies – of poetry and short stories., including Literary Sudans: An Anthology of Literature from Sudan and South Sudan, Ed. Bhakti Shringarpure (Red Sea Press, 2016.
His most recent work is an anthology of Sudanese poetry Modern Sudanese Poetry: An Anthology (University of Nebraska Press, 2021).
