In the late 1980s, his mentor was the legendary Beat poet Allen Ginsberg.  His books include These Are My Shoes, Minor Roads, A Big Yellow, Instruments, Between Ourselves, Finding It, To day—Minutes only (a prose-poem sequence with Saadi Youssef), the poetry/music collaboration Blue Square (a CD that contains excerpts from Today—Minutes only), Che: A Novella In Three Parts, and American Drone: New & Select Poems (which reprints To day—Minutes only in full).  American Drone demands that readers pause, reflect and meditate, offering alternatives to destruction and celebrating openness across all barriers. With Sinan Antoon, he co-translated Saadi Youssef’s poems in Nostalgia, My Enemy.  He is co-founder and founder of the journals Writers’ Bloc, Lame Duck, Across Borders, and is director of Harbor Mountain Press, publishing, among others, writers from Cambodia, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Iraq, Spain and the UK.
