was born in Aleppo, Syria, in 1966 and has a BA in Law from Aleppo University. Since 1995 she has published five novels. A sixth novel, War Correspondent, will follow shortly. In 2005, she was awarded the Hellman-Hammett Grant, administered by the American Human Rights Watch. Her novel Umbilical Cord was longlisted for the 2011 IPAF. She currently lives in France.
