Ali Abu al-Reesh (al-Rish) was born in 1956 in Al Maareedh, Ras al-Kheimah. He graduated from Ain Shams University, Cairo, in pyschology in 1979. He is managing editor of Al-Itihad newspaper, and is also a series editor for Qalam, the publishing arm of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage Cultural Foundation. His first book was a collection of short stories, published 1979, and then two of poetry. Since his first novel in 1980, Al-A’tiraf (The Confession) he has published 12 novels. In 2008 he was awarded the prize for literature of the Emirates Appreciation Award for Science, Art and Literature.
