Hafid Bouazza
(b. Oujda, Morocco, 1970) came to The Netherlands in 1977. He studied Arabic language and literature in Amsterdam and made his debut with the short-story collection De voeten van Abdullah [Abdullah’s Feet, Review], 2000, for which he was awarded the E. du Perron Prize. He has since published drama, essays, anthologies of Arabic and erotic poetry, and three novels: Salomon (2001), Paravion (2003, Gouden Uil Award and nomination for AKO Prize) and Spotvogel [Mockingbird], 2009. He is well-known for his fierce criticism of the Moroccan community in The Netherlands.
