was born in Damascus. He graduated in law from Damascus University, and worked at several jobs. He is now a full-time writer.

Since 1991 he has published nine novels, the latest one entitled Al-Mutarjim Al-Khayn [The Treacherous Translator], published in 2008 by Riad el-Rayyes Books, Beirut. It has been shortlisted for the 2008-2009 International Prize for Arabic Fiction.
