Khaled Hroub

is director of the Cambridge Arab Media Project (CAMP) of the Centre of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at the University of Cambridge, and a member of Queens’ College. He has organised several conferences and workshops, under the umbrella of CAMP, on Arab media in Cambridge, Salzburg, Frankfurt, Barcelona and Berlin.

He is a trustee of the International Prize for Arabic Fiction, and has authored two non-fiction works – Hamas: A Beginners Guide (2006) and Hamas: Political Thought and Practice, (2000). He is presently conducting research in two areas – religious broadcasting in the Middle East, and Salafism in Palestine.

Until 2006 he was the host of a weekly book-review programme on Al-Jazeera channel. He also worked for the International Institute of International Studies and for a Mauritanian-based NGO.

His academic writings have been published in Middle East Journal, Middle East International, Journal for Palestine Studies, ‘Shu’un Arabyya’, Critique: Critical Middle Eastern Studies, Outre Terre and Internationale Politik and he publishes a weekly article in Arab dailies in Jordan, Qatar, Egypt, UAE, Oman, Palestine, Mauritania and the UK. He has also published in the Beirut Daily Star, the International Herald Tribune, El Pais and La Razon.
