Salwa Bakr
was born in Cairo in 1949. In the early1980 she was a film and theatre critic for Arabic-language newspapers and magazines and from 1985 concentrated on her own writings. She has published seven collections of short stories, seven novels and a play, with a number of her works translated to different European languages.
