was born in 1930 in Kafroun, Syria and now lives in Lebanon. He is Distinguished Professor of Arabic Philosophy at the Lebanese American University.  He is an important translator of Rilke, Hölderlin and other German authors into Arabic. He was one of the founders of the 1957 Shi’r magazine and has published numerous works of poetry.
