was born in 1950 in the Delta of Egypt. He studied to become a doctor and later specialised in psychology and alternative medicine in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. After practising as a doctor for some years, he became a journalist and writer, working in Kuwait on al-Arabi magazine. Back in Cairo, he works on the children’s edition of al-Arabi. He has published several volumes of short stories; some translations have appeared in English, French, German, Russian, and Chinese. in 2005 AUC Press published his Memories of a Meltdown, a memoir of his return to Russia and Chernobyl 10 years after the nuclear plant accident. He lives between Egypt and Syria.
