Bothayna al-Essa is a Kuwaiti writer, born on 3 September, 1982. She obtained her degree in Finance from the College of Business Administration at the University of Kuwait in 2005 and later received her Masters in 2007.

She has published five novels and one collection of essays, with the first novel, Irtitam la yusma‘ lahu dawii (A Soundless Collision), appearing in 2004. She has been awarded many national and international prizes for her work, including being longlisted for the 2013 Sheikh Zayed Book Award. She is a wife and mother and government employee.
