Basima al-Enezi is a Kuwaiti author who published her first collection of short stories in 1998, under the title of Al-Ashya’ (Things). Two more collections followed in 2007 and 2010. Her second collection, Hayatun Khaliyyatun Min al-Ahdath (An Uneventful Life) won the Kuwait State Encouragement Award for the Short Story in 2007. Finally, her first novel, Hidha’ Aswad ‘Ala al-Raseef (Black Shoes on a Sidewalk) was published in 2012 and came third in the 2013 Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture.
