Ezzat El-Kamhawi
Ezzat El-Kamhawi was born in 1961 in Sharqia Governorate, Egypt, and is a novelist and journalist, writing regular columns for Al-Masry Al-Youm and Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspapers.
He helped establish the literary weekly Akhbar Al-Adab, and was Senior Editor there for a number of years. He was also a senior editor of Al-Doha cultural magazine. He has eleven novels and two short story collections.
His novel The House of El Deeb, excerpted in Banipal 48 – Narrating Marrakech, won the 2012 Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature.
Three of his novels – Yakfi Innana Ma’an (At least we are together, 2017), Ghurfat al-Musafireen (The Travellers’ Room, 2019), Ghurbat al-Manazil (Strangers at Home, 2021) all published in Cairo by Dar al-Masriah al-Lubnaniah – have been shortlisted for the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, respectively in 2018, 2021 and 2022.
