was born in Al-Bihera, Egypt in 1944. His first novel, Al-Hidaad, was published in 1969. His second, Akhbar Izbat al-Minisi, appeared on the day of Gamal Abdul Nasser’s death, 28 September 1970. He has published around twenty novels and collections of short stories. Some of them have been made into films, including the last film of well-known film director Salah Abu Saif, "Egyptian Citizen", based on the novel, Al-Harb fi Bar Misr, which was published in Beirut, Baghdad and Algiers but banned in Egypt until 1985.
