Mahmoud Sa'id (Saeed)
was born in Mosul, Iraq, in 1939. He published his first collection of short stories Port Said and Other Short Stories in 1957. He has published eight novels. In 1981, he wrote a semi-documentary novel under the pseudonym Mustafa Ali Nu’man about life in Iraqi jails, published in English under his name as Saddam City (Saqi Books, 2004).
