Ezzat El-Kamhawi was born in 1961 in Sharqia Governorate, Egypt, and is a novelist and journalist, writing regular columns for Al-Masry Al-Youm and Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspapers. He helped establish the literary weekly Akhbar Al-Adab, and was Senior Editor there for a number of years. He was also a senior editor of Al-Doha cultural magazine. He has six novels and two short story collections. His latest, The House of El Deeb, excerpted in Banipal 48 – Narrating Marrakech, won the 2012 Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature.
