Nihad Sirees
was born in 1950 in Aleppo, Syria. A novelist and screenwriter since the 1980s, he still works as a civil engineer in Aleppo. He has written numerous successful television dramas, including a recent controversial series “The White Thread” depicting the country’s government-controlled media. His latest is a film series on the Lebanese-born artist and philosopher Kahlil Gibran. In 2005 he was a participant in the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, and in Jan-May 2006 was a writer in residence at the University of Maryland.
