is a Lebanese writer and journalist. Born in Beirut, she has lived in Iraq and Morocco and for many years in London. She has published four novels and five collections of short stories, including Bustan al-Akhmar [Red Grove], 2002. She has written scripts for film and television documentaries and was formerly arts editor of the Arab women’s magazine Sayadity, based in London. She presented a regular BBC Arabic service programme on Arabic short stories.
